Colin Stair, President of NY Hudson's based Auction House Stair Galleries, has recently announced the upcoming sale An American Icon: Property from the Collection of Joan Didion, to take place this fall on November 16, 2022.
The sale of fine arts, furniture, books and ephemera from Didion's New York apartment will include a selection of artworks by Ed Ruscha, Jennifer Bartlett, Richard Diebenkorn, Eric Fischl, Sam Francis, Vija Celmins and Patti Smith - most of which were personal gifts from the artists to Didion and her husband John Dunne.
Novelist, journalist and essayist Joan Didion was one of the most influential literary voices in America since the 1960s, with deep roots in both California - her home state - and the East Coast. As reported by the auction house, the influence of both places can be felt in the collection of objects she lived with.
