Hannah Höch at Bröhan-Museum, Berlin

Updated: Jan 28, 2023

Hannah Höch (1889–1978) is one of the 213 artists featured in the next 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia at Giardini and Arsenale - The Milk of Dreams - curated by Cecilia Alemani.

A major survey of the work by the German artist is now on view at Bröhan-Museum in Berlin from 16 February until 15 May 2022.

Hannah Höch. Millions of Views, curated by Dr. Ellen Maurer Zilioli, sheds light on her “unequaled artistic freedom and variety: she was not only a Dada icon, well renowned for her collages and photomontage, but also a versatile Surrealist painter, drawer and poster designer who loved to experiment and play with the materials, combining fine art and applied art.

A characteristic that made her a champion of the union between the arts, avoiding any ideological preconception, with innovative results in image's composition.

A clever example of her formal and aesthetical gift is the Portrait of Til Brugman of 1927 from the permanent collection of the Berlinische Galerie: a colored paper collage, certainly rooted in the 20s but indeed still very contemporary, in my opinion.

Here you can enjoy a beautiful selection of images from the exhibition:
